AUTUMN 2023 Session Applications OPENING SOON
Both the Awake and the Dream sessions of the Village Deathcare Citizen Course are dedicated to those who truly wish to dive *deep* into the work of death and dying. The time commitment will be held and agreed upon in advance. The content that you share for your weekly submissions must be thorough and in-depth (you do not need to be a genius! You just need to put in a sincere effort.) so that your classmates can truly benefit from each individual's contribution in the course. There is a great deal of self-discovery, self-love and self-healing work done in this course as that is the foundation of caregiving- no one can give water from an empty well. And there is *quite* a lot of giving when caring for the dying!
This course is not a grief support group and it is recommended that one take at least a full year to have space and mend after a close death has occurred.

TBA (Make note, we do not pause for holidays in this course) We will meet once per week for 12 weeks and you will connect with a partner once per week on your own time. The live Zoom calls are every Sunday-- Awake meets at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm eastern and Dream meets 7:00-9:00 pm eastern. You are strongly encouraged to attend each session live as the classes are not recorded for privacy purposes.
Guest speakers will join us on occasion throughout the 12 weeks. The Guests are superb at what they do and you'll benefit greatly from learning from them!
The course offers an array of assignments each week (videos, podcasts, articles, experiential activities) but this is also heavily directed by the class itself. We dedicate an entire week to ancestral studies which is in depth personal work. You are encouraged to meditate (instruction will be offered at the beginning of the course) throughout the eleven weeks. You can expect about six to eight hours of work each week outside of our meeting times. When considering the live Zoom calls and partner work the average time spent will be approximately ten hours per week. However, this is work of the heart and soul and it doesn't just "vanish" from mind when you close the book for the evening. Gently keep that in mind.
You'll need to recognize, engage with and learn about your own community throughout the training. There will be some assignments to keep you connected to others for your own support and to begin to understand how communities work with dying and grief. Remember the intention of this particular course is to reweave deathcare into your own community.
**Full participation in class is mandatory or your acceptance to the course will be withdrawn.**
In recognition that community is stronger when empathy, mindfulness and skills are shared, this course has a donation option so that it is accessible to more individuals.
After being accepted into the course (complete Step One and Step Two) you will be instructed on which books to purchase either through me, Amazon or your local bookstore. This is a required purchase. Total cost will not exceed $65.00
The course donation amount for the 12 week course is TBA. However, if you are unable to pay that full amount you may engage in a Fair Exchange. You will be asked to pay as much as you can and if it is not the full amount of the course value, you may refer to the list of Fair Exchange opportunities to come to a value of $x. There is a required $x course enrollment fee to hold your spot. (If you are able to offer the full amount of $x your enrollment fee is included) A minimum contribution for this 12 week course is $x plus Fair Exchange. Full and partial scholarships available for BIPOC and ESL for each session. There are also 70+ discounts and Canadian discounts. Apply early to receive scholarships and discounts!
After you have been accepted, you may proceed to Step Two for payment (donation or Fair Exchange) below.
Craftsbury Common, Vermont

After being accepted in Step One, if you pay the full amount your application and acceptance to the course is complete.
If you need to engage in Fair Exchange we have to come to an agreement before you are accepted to the course. Below are some examples you can trade for the Village Deathcare Certificate Course. Your total donation/exchange should be valued at $x. A combination of monetary donation and Fair Exchange is a good option if your Fair Exchange offerings cannot total $x.
*Some of these options will be filled for each course. Submit your application early if you wish to do Fair Exchange.*
To come to an agreement on the Fair Exchange, reply to the email thread that we used for Step One that way all information is in the same place.
Whether you have cared for one who has died, are doing it right now, or you have taken other death doula trainings, approach this training with an engaged curiosity. Drop any expectations you may have. There are no experts here- not me and not you and unless the deceased return to tell us how their dying went, we must remain humble with hearts wide open and ever ready to learn and serve.
This will secure your spot in the course. It is non-refundable. Completing this step does not guarantee your full acceptance into the course until full payment, payment plan and/or Fair Exchange has been determined. (For the 12 week course the minimum donation is $x plus Fair Exchange) This hold fee is suitable for both the Awake and the Dream session.
If you pay the full course requested donation of $x, you do not need to pay the $x enrollment fee. This full donation payment is suitable for both the Awake and the Dream session. All payments and donations are non-refundable. Inquire about tax deductables.
