AUTUMN 2023 Session Applications OPENING SOON

Both the Awake and the Dream sessions of the Village Deathcare Citizen Course are dedicated to those who truly wish to dive *deep* into the work of death and dying. The time commitment will be held and agreed upon in advance. The content that you share for your weekly submissions must be thorough and in-depth (you do not need to be a genius! You just need to put in a sincere effort.) so that your classmates can truly benefit from each individual's contribution in the course.  There is a great deal of self-discovery, self-love and self-healing work done in this course as that is the foundation of caregiving- no one can give water from an empty well. And there is *quite* a lot of giving when caring for the dying!

This course is not a grief support group and it is recommended that one take at least a full year to have space and mend after a close death has occurred.

Course schedule

Zoom Classes

TBA (Make note, we do not pause for holidays in this course) We will meet once per week for 12 weeks and you will connect with a partner once per week on your own time.  The live Zoom calls are every Sunday-- Awake meets at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm eastern and Dream meets 7:00-9:00 pm eastern. You are strongly encouraged to attend each session live as the classes are not recorded for privacy purposes.

Guest speakers will join us on occasion throughout the 12 weeks. The Guests are superb at what they do and you'll benefit greatly from learning from them!

Reading, Research, Meditation & Time Commitment

The course offers an array of assignments each week (videos, podcasts, articles, experiential activities) but this is also heavily directed by the class itself. We dedicate an entire week to ancestral studies which is in depth personal work. You are encouraged to meditate (instruction will be offered at the beginning of the course) throughout the eleven weeks. You can expect about six to eight hours of work each week outside of our meeting times. When considering the live Zoom calls and partner work the average time spent will be approximately ten hours per week. However, this is work of the heart and soul and it doesn't just "vanish" from mind when you close the book for the evening. Gently keep that in mind.

Community and Partner

You'll need to recognize, engage with and learn about  your own community throughout the training. There will be some assignments to keep you connected to others for your own support and to begin to understand how communities work with dying and grief. Remember the intention of this particular course is to reweave deathcare into your own community.

**Full participation in class is mandatory or your acceptance to the course will be withdrawn.**
