We will meet once per week for 8 of the 9 weeks. (Self deepening practice will be on your own during the December holiday week). We will meet live via Zoom every Sunday night from 7:00-8:30 pm eastern. You are strongly encouraged to attend each session live. This is 9 weeks of course work and three weeks of practicing and integrating the work into your life on your own. There is a check in on the 12th week at which time you'll receive your certificate. You will also need a Google Account to partake in the posted materials. (Likely, you already have this and don't really realize it! If not, it is easy to set up.)
There will be a good deal of assignments throughout each week but this is also heavily directed by the class itself. You are strongly encouraged to meditate (instruction will be offered at the beginning of the course) throughout the 9 weeks (and into the 12th week). You can expect about three to five hours of work each week outside of our meeting times. However, this is work of the heart and soul and it doesn't just "vanish" from mind when you close the book for the session. Gently keep that in mind.
You'll need to be talking with your own community throughout the training and others in the group while you engage in this work! There will be some assignments to keep you connected to others for your own support and to begin to understand how communities work with dying and grief. Remember the intention of this particular course is to reweave deathcare into your own community. A final project includes hosting a forum in your community to share what you have learned and to also learn from others who have already cared for the dying in their community.
**Full participation in class is mandatory or your acceptance to the course will be withdrawn.**
In recognition that community is stronger when empathy, mindfulness and skills are shared, this course is by donation only. This is unlike any death doula training model. This course is no less deep or enriching or challenging as any course that is hundreds or thousands of dollars.
After being accepted into the course (complete Step One) you will be instructed on which books to purchase either through me, Amazon or your local bookstore. This is a required purchase. Total cost is approximately $30.00
Since my time will be spent teaching and hosting, you will be asked to contribute. You may donate an amount of money or refer to the list of items in Step Two that would be considered fair exchange for the course. Although there is no set fee for this course and each individual will work with what is fair for them, the estimated value is $350 per person. (There is $75 minimum course enrollment fee. if you offer the full amount of $350 your enrollment fee is included)
After you have been accepted, you may proceed to Step Two (Fair Exchange or donation) below.
Step Two in the application process is to pay the $75 enrollment fee (link below) and continue on with Fair Exchange. Here are some examples you can trade for the Village Deathcare Certificate Course. Your total exchange should be valued at $350. A combination of monetary donation and fair exchange is a good option if your fair exchange cannot total $350. *Some of these options will be filled for each course. Submit your application early if you wish to do Fair Exchange.*
To come to an agreement on the Fair Exchange, reply to the email thread that we used for Step One that way all information is in the same place.
Whether you have cared for one who has died, are doing it right now, or you have taken other death doula trainings, approach this training with an engaged curiosity. Drop any expectations you may have. There are no experts here- not me and not you and unless the deceased return to tell us how their dying went, we must remain humble with hearts wide open and ever ready to learn and serve.
This will secure your spot in the course. It is non-refundable.
If you pay the full course requested donation of $350, you do not need to pay the $75 enrollment fee.
